Mike and Bob were having a competition to see who had more cookies. Another guy named Fred had the same amount of cookies as Bob and didn’t feel like eating cookies, so he gives all of his to Bob. Bob was really happy because he thought he would win the competition for sure and jumped for joy, but accidentally dropped one cookie. That cookie went down the trash. He was so confident about winning that he invited 2 friends and divided the cookies among themselves. However, it turned out that Mike had won the competition. Mike had 18 cookies, which was 5 more than Bob. How many cookies did Bob have after he received all of Fred's?

The story is very creative but I get confused at the part of when it says "Mike had 18 cookies, which was 5 more than Bob." It sounds like Bob is 18 - 5 not 18 (and the other things) = 3. I think I would get sort of confused with the question so I could get the equation some what right. It's not clear at the part that I had said before. I think if would be better to say Bob started out with 18 cookies and after he gave his friends and dropped a cookie, he ended up with 5. The story is pretty creative, I like how Bob jumped for joy and dropped a cookie C:. I think you don't need to add the first sentence talking about how Mike and Bob have the same amount of cookies is not important. I like how you added Fred because it may confuse the reader a bit that Fred is a variable in the equation when he isn't. I liked your world problem and it would be even better if you made some changes (it doesn't have to be mine ahaha).

  4. The story fits really well with the equation and when I actually tried writing the equation with this story, it matched with the original equation. It isn't confusing since you told the story step by step (like you started out with Mike and Bob having a competition, Fred giving Bob his cookies, etc.). It was easy to understand what was happening. I really like the idea of the competition and one cookie being lost in the trash. There wasn't any grammar mistakes too.

The story matches well with the equation. The equation an be written down. But, the story problem is kind of confusing because of some sentences. For example, on the jump for joy part. Thats the part where it gets confusing. But, I think it is very creative and good job!

If you subtract the number of Bob’s cookies from Mike’s, there are 5 left. How many cookies did Bob have in the beginning?
