Jada went to the store and bought 2 packs of chocolates. She was not sure how many chocolates each packs contained but she just decided to buy 2 packs. When she went to the counter to pay for the chocolates, the owner told her that the chocolates are on a special sale so if you buy 3 packs, you could get 10 more chocolates so Jada decided to buy 3 packs of chocolates to earn the extra 10 chocolates. While she was going back home, she met a fairy and the fairy quadrupled (times 4) the amount of chocolates she had already. Jada was so happy that she was hopping around but she fell by accident and 10 of her chocolates fell into the trash can so she lost 10 chocolates. When she got home and counted the amount of chocolates she had, it was 42 and she was pretty happy by that number. How many chocolates were in each pack?
The story is very interesting and you can write the equation very easily by reading this story. The fact that she was going to buy two packs of chocolates throw you off, but I think that it’s good for a word problem to have a false information to make it more challenging. Also, the fairy was a great addition and I think that the story is awesome.
The equation is fair enough to be written down. The creativity of the problem is great by using fairies as characters. But, the problem is very long. Since the problem you have to keep reading it again so you don't forget about the important info of the problem. The story is great but could be improved if the problem is shorter
