Jerry scores two more points than Tom. Mickey Mouse scores 2 points less than 60% of Jerry's Score which is 10 points. How many points did each person score?
The story makes me confused. I do not understand whose’ points is the variable. I do not think I could write an equation from this story. It makes me think that Jerry’s score of 10 is 60% of his real score. The story should be more elaborated on and should be more clear. In sentence 2, “...less than 60% of Jerry’s Score...” the score next to Jerry’s should not be capitalized. The story isn’t very creative. If you are going to talk about points, say which sport the points are being earned from and the names should be more creative. I can at least get part of the equation from the story. Good job!
This story fits with the equation, however I wouldn't use this problem because its exceptionally complicated. I understood the second sentence after I read it multiple times because the second sentence makes it sound like Jerry has 10 points so I think you should make the second sentence into 2 separate specific sentences. Almost all sentences are in present tense, however the last sentence is in past tense. Fix that so that all sentences are in present or past tense. The story was kinda creative however there is no storyline and it is not engaging. You can improve this problem by writing where, how, when they scored the points. The positive points about this problem is that it provides a challenge, however as we have stated is may be a bit too challenging.
1) The story is functional, and we got the correct equation.
2) The equation is confusing, and we had to read several times before we got it. It was confusing because the wording was confusing.
3) We corrected your grammar: Jerry scored two more points than Tom. Mickey Mouse scored 2 points less than 60% of Jerry's score which is 10 points. How many points did Tom score?
