Chanwu brought yams y amount of yams to the party. Kelvin had 9 yams coming to the party. Kelvin gets jumped by a gangster and lost twice as many yams as Chanwu brought. As Kelvin came to the party, Kelvin was too chicken to lose more, he shared it with 7 other friends equally. Kelvin now has the same amount as Chanwu brought to the party. How many yams did Chanwu bring to the party?

  4. The story kinda fits with the equation. The sentence: “...he shared it with 7 other friends equally,” will make people think that they have to divide by 8 because Kelvin is SHARING the yams with 7 friends and possibly with himself also. You could say that Kelvin gave the same amount of his leftover yams to 6 friends and himself. There are some grammatical mistakes. The first sentence should have a parentheses around the ‘y’ between the words of yam and amount. In sentence 2, Kelvin should bring yams, not have yams. In sentence 4, it should be: When Kelvin came to the party, not as Kelvin came to the party. The story is very creative because gangsters jump Kelvin and steal some yams. Hahahaha! The concept is very nice and funny. Good job!

  5. 1) Equation is functional, and we were able to form a correct equation out of this.

    2) It was easy to understand, and was very straight-going and clear.

    3) We corrected your grammar:
Chanwu brought y amount of yams to the party. Kelvin had 9 yams while coming to the party. However Kelvin got jumped by a gangster and lost twice as many yams as Chanwu brought. When Kelvin came to the party, he was too scared to lose more, so he shared it with 7 other friends equally. Kelvin now has the same amount that Chanwu brought to the party. How many yams did Chanwu bring to the party?

    4) Yes, it was creative.

    5) We liked how you guys used "The Outsiders" theme.

  6. 1. The equation is functional and after I read the problem, I could form the same equation.

    2. We think it was very clear and easy to understand. However, was unclear because of grammar.

    3. The first sentence doesn't make any sense. It should be "Chanwu brought y amount of yams to the party."

    1. It was very creative. 'I like the way how Kelvin got jumped. It added humor to the problem.

    5. Some positive comment is that it is very straight forward and doesn’t have junk to distract us. Also I think Y for Yam was a good idea.
