Invent a Review Game

Invent a new review game for the end of a chapter. How would it be structured? Would there be a clearly-defined winner? Make sure this game incorporates everyone in the class, where everyone is actively reviewing the material on some level.

(This blog will be graded based upon the thoughtfulness of your answer.)

  1. we can divide up into equal groups. We need markers, whiteboards, and dice. It's similar to the game that we played. It's very basic and fun which everyone can enjoy. We have scores from 1-6 which we can role to pick how much points that the team will get when the group gets the answer right. The group goes around and pick a person to solve the answer. The same person can go only twice. The round goes until one team gets to a limit point (it can be any number). The team that gets to the limit point first wins

  2. We could spilt into teams then send one or even two people up to the board. As the teacher calls out a problem, student(s) will try to get the correct answer faster than the opposing team. The fastest team to get the correct answer will win a point. The game can go on for a set amount of time or points until there is a a winning team. A rule is that a student cannot come up to the board again until everyone in his/her team has taken a turn at the board. Though this does not produce an exact winner, it can give everybody a chance to get involved.

  3. As a new review game, we can do jeopardy. The class would be divided into 3-5 groups. In the jeopardy power point, there should be different sections such as simple equations, word problems, and other concepts in the chapter. The winner is obviously the team with the most points. For the team with the least amount of points, they should be given the punishment of solving extra problems.

  4. we have some kind of tournament, that means no team. The teacher will show a question. 2 people will try to answer the question. The guy that answers the question faster wins. and the winner does it with the winner. the winner at the last is the champion

  5. The entire class is split into 4-5 teams. Everyone on each team has a number 1-4(or 5). The teacher calls out a number 1-4(or 5) and then those 4 or 5 people would go up to the whiteboard and do a problem. The problems would be review questions that the teacher verbally says and the teacher says it ONCE. The fastest person to finish the problem and get it correct would earn their team points. The point level of the questions get higher and higher and team with the highest amount of points at the end of the time would win. The winner would be the team who has the highest amount of points by the end of the game. The teacher will choose numbers in any order but all numbers have to be called at least twice.

  6. A game we could play is kind of like tag. Before the class of the game, he would make the students pair up and choose one group to be the tagger, secretly without anyone else knowing. The tagger group would write hints about themselves so that the groups that aren't the tagger can find out who the tagger group is. Then when the game starts, the groups would solve a math question in the classroom first and Mr. Jobe would give them a hint on where the next location is. Then after they solve the next question, they would come back to Mr. Jobe's classroom to get the hint of one of the tagger pair and a hint for the next location and so forth. Meanwhile, the tagger group has to also solve questions but the hints they get would lead them to finding other small objects hidden in the school. For the tagger group to win, they need to find all the small objects hidden before any group finds out they are the tagger. For one of the other groups to win, they have to figure out which group is the tagger before the tagger group finds all the objects.

    At the end of the chapter, we could do a speed game of math. Each person could answer several questions that has to do with the chapter we studied in a limited time. When a person doesn't get at least half of the answer right, they could be eliminated for the round and the last person that is in the game could get a prize.

  9. First the class should be split into pairs of 2. Everyone needs a small white board and a dry erase marker and an eraser each. Mr. Jobe will give everyone the same question on the white board and everyone should solve the question. Then when the time limit is over, Mr. Jobe should pick on a group randomly and if that group guesses the problem right, the class solves another problem and the group that was picked before choses another group to call out the answer for the next problem. (If you get a question correct, you don’t earn or lose points) If a group gets chosen and gets the answer wrong, they will lose one point and they have to pick another group to call out the answer and if that group gets it wrong, they will lose one point and another group should call out the answer and it keeps on going like that until someone has the correct answer. So basically you can’t earn any points but you can lose points. You won’t know when your group will be chosen so you always have to be ready for an answer to call out. There will be a clearly-defined winner because at the end, the group that didn’t lose the most point wins.

  10. This game would have to be done using someplace like the stairs. This game would be done in teams. One person from each team would be playing for one round. And on the next round, a new person from each team would come out and play. Once all the team representatives are chosen and they are standing at the first flight of stairs Mr.Jobe will give out a question. And the team that gets the answer the fastest gets the choice of going up two stairs, or making another team come down one stair. Then Mr.Jobe will give out a new question and the team that solves it the fastest gets the two choices and so on. There would be a clearly defined winner. The first team that reaches the ending point (the last stair) is the winner.

  11. the whole class divides into groups of three or four (at least 5 groups in total). we make five cards that says 1,2,3,4,and asker on each card. we mix up the cards and each group gets to pick one. nobody is allowed to tell other groups which number they have picked except for the asker group. the group that picked the asker card randomly picks two numbers out of 1-4 and asks a math question from the chapter we have been studying. the two groups who have picked the two numbers that the asker has chosen, stands up and answers the question. the group that answers the question first between the two groups gets to be the next asker, and the rest of the groups pick up a new number card again.(goes on)

  12. At the end of a chapter we should play a game where you split the classroom into 4-5 teams. Next you put them in lines. The people in front of each of the lines will sit on the a desk with a white board. Mr.Jobe will ask a problem. The students will write their answer on the white board. The first person to answer it correctly will win and get a point. If they get it wrong they will lose a point. Not answering the problem will give them zero points. After that the people on the desk will go back of the line and the people on the front of then line will answer the next problem. If nobody answers the question Mr.Jobe will ask different problem. The winner of the game is the team with the most points.

  13. I think we can have one group that everyone can participate in. Everyone can represent a number such as "x" and Mr. Jobe can give our class an algebraic equation and if it’s like 3x, three students can move and try to solve the problems working together. It will be like a human algebra solving. Not only will it be fun but it will be easier than trying to solve a long hard problem by yourself.

  14. A Spin-The-Wheel game. It would work like this, Everyone is divided into groups, and put into groups. Since hand-making a spinner would be hard, probably it would be best to find a spinner program on the computer. Multiple spinners will be necessary. Mark the spinners with sections that have numbers on it. Have a keynote with problems that match the amount of sections on the spinners. When a problem is chosen, the group
    that comes up with the answer first will get the point(s). The answers should be written on a whiteboard. The spinners should be different levels, easy, medium, and hard. Easy questions will be worth 1 point, medium worth 2, and hard worth 3. The winner will be the team that has the most points. If there is a tie, then there will be a tiebreaker question.

  15. At the end of the chapter, we could play a board game like snakes and ladders. We should be put into groups of 5 (4 players and 1 leader) and each should have a list of questions that Mr Jobe made (with answer key). Every time a player rolls the dice, they get a question, from the list, and if they get the question right they get to move up the spaces that says on the dice. But if they get the questions wrong, they’ll have to miss their go and wait for another turn. Repeat this process until there is a winner. The winner of the game would be the one that reaches the endpoint the fastest.

  16. I played this game when I was in 5th grade, and I never won. It's an elimination game where students pair up in twos and solve a problem in a minute. The questions will get harder each round, and if you got the answer wrong, or did not finish, you will get out. The final winner wins a candy. :)

  17. Divide the class into groups of four to five members, and each of the group will receive a paper and a pencil to work on. There would be around five to ten question on the board, and one of the team members would whisper the answer to the teacher. Each team has three chances, and if the group gets the question right on the first go, they would receive twenty points, on the second go, fifteen points, on the third go, ten points, if they blow up all their chances, they get a zero. When the game finishes, the team with the highest score wins.

  18. Each students get a number, and with the number wheel, we randomly choose a number, then the person with that number will rise and solve a question that instructor provide. Each question will worth 1 point and if that person cannot answer in 30 seconds, that person will not receive any point.

  19. One Two Three Fours

    This game is based on luck and skill. However if you know everything we learned in the chapter, and can solve the questions without mistake, then you will win no matter how unlucky you are, however unfortunately, that does not apply to all of us, which further adds to the excitement.

    Every person in the class is assigned a number in one and four. The teacher will write a problem on the board relating to the chapter learned. He will ask everyone to solve it, then will RANDOMLY choose a number in one and four. Then he will ask everyone of the number picked to stand up and raise their answers high. The correct people will remain, while the incorrect people will be eliminated from the game. There is a time limit so anyone picked who failed to solve the problem within the given time is eliminated. The problems will increase in difficulty every round, (one round is when every number is picked) then the final winner will be the one remaining person.

    Yes there is a clear winner because this is basically a survival round where people have to survive and try to prevail over the oncoming onslaught of math problems which increase in strength every round. And everyone is solving every question, it is just a matter of who has to reveal their answer.

  20. I believe that a review game should catch attention of the students so that they can focus more on the lesson being reviewed. The game is simple. Its called Ah!!!!!!!. The teacher shows a problem and if the students think they know the answer, they shout "AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and If they get it right, they get a point but if they are wrong, they lose 5 times the point of the problem. The one with the most points win the game.
